Educational reform: Implications for the Sciences and Mathematics
Abstract
The Philippines is scrambling to implement reforms to basic education covering Kindergarten to Grade 12 with 2016 looming as a watershed year, i.e., it is expected that no first-year tertiary students will enter higher education. Changes in basic education obviously impact higher education prompting the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to release Memorandum Order No. 46 (2012) which defines new horizontal and vertical typologies in an attempt to align educational institutions with international benchmarks.
